Glenn Beck on The Situation Room

by thoughtfulconservative

Just heard this, so no link, but Glenn Beck gave the most succinct answer I’ve heard for the difference between conservative and liberal talk radio. The liberal side wants to influence elections and bash Republicans. The conservative side is there to entertain. They will give what they think and if you don’t agree with it fine.

  1. The conservative side is there to entertain. They will give what they think and if you don’t agree with it fine.
I think these two sentences are contradictory. If “what they think” is unappealing to their audience, then they won’t be entertaining anymore.

I’ve always seen the difference not so much in the performers but in the audience. A liberal audience does not want to be entertained or so much told what we should be thinking. A conservative audience appreciates the reinforcement of their own views.

But that’s just me. Unlike Beck, I have not stake in this.

  2. Well, hi there, Jay!

Yeah, I can see how they might look to be contradictory. Entertainment is still the key, but Beck’s point was the politician was not primary.

A conservative audience appreciates the reinforcement of their own views.

This is the true dynamic of conservative talk radio and their listeners. They articulate our views rather than give us marching orders, although they can and do mobilize on occasion.
