NJ Absentee Voters Get 2nd Chance

Vote early and often is more than a joke in New Jersey.

Due to a ruling by a state judge in Ocean County, voters who cast absentee ballots in that county for a presidential candidate who later withdrew from the race, such as Republican Rudy Giuliani or Democrat John Edwards, can get a replacement absentee ballot before the state’s primary Tuesday.

That’s a problem in a campaign with so many candidates. Some are bound to drop out and that leaves them on already printed, and, in this case, already filled out ballots.

New Jerseyans who go to the polls instead of voting absentee ballots will find half the ballot obsolete. Six candidates who dropped out of the race are still listed because they ended their campaigns after the ballots were printed. Among them is Giuliani, the former New York mayor who weeks ago was expected to win in the neighboring state.
