Musings of a Thoughtful Conservative

Sullenberger and Flight 1549

The FAA released the tapes of Flight 1549 voice recorder. Here are more of the tape with video.

And if you can take Katie Couric, the whole flight crew is sitting down with her on 60 minutes this Sunday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

24 thus far

We’re seven episodes into season 7 of the popular FOX show 24 and I thought I’d share a couple of observations.

I like the major themes so far. There’s no oddball story line sucking time away from the main story line like last season. Everything appears to tie in or will tie in eventually.

The program, which broke ground with not one, but two African American presidents (Did this pave the way for Obama’s victory?) now has a female president.

Now one thing I haven’t liked:

Yes, Tony is alive! The CTU, although disbanded, still has Buchanon and Chloe to aid Jack in his quests. Renee, the FBI agent, was rescued and resusitated. The presidents husband comes out of a drug-induced paralysis to prevent a plot from being successful. I’m halfway wondering if Michelle and Edgar will appear. Maybe Emerson is not really dead.

But overall things seem to be progressing better than last year. There’s the usual ineptness of the federal government, but not it’s still believable, because the suspense sucks you along.

24 Liveblog: Season 7 – Episode 6

“With all due respect, Madame President, ask around”

There is little doubt that “24″ is back. After a lackluster season 6 which looked as though the writers wanted to go one direction and had to go a different direction, resulting in the appearance of a show jumping the shark, the first four episodes (like the season 6.5 “Redemption”) shows a better product.

The folks at Blogs.4Bauer have their usual irreverent reviews of the first two episodes (latch on to those nicknames because they may be kept all season) along with an “historical” look at “Talk like Jack Bauer Day.” They also live blog each episode using the Cover it Live vehicle.

The folks at 24fans.net have two trailers for Episode 5 up, as well as short summaries for the first 4. The title is supposedly something Jack says to the President in Episode 5.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

Less than 24 hours till “24″

24Fans.net has several trailers. And a countdown clock. Which I would put on here, but it probably requires JavaScript which WordPress.com pretty much rules out.

This season looks promising. Tony Almeda appears to have switched to the bad guys, Jack is being held accountable for what he’s done in the past, and a female president. Every one knows a female president would be weak (Ducks. Quickly.).

Hopefully it will live up to the previews.

Episodes 1-4 appear to have been leaked although of low quality. You can find some spoilers, too, although not enough to betray alot.

Digital transition – one more thing

Your wireless mics frequency may need to change,

This was something that I wasn’t aware of until this week. If anyone uses wireless mics for your group or church, you may need to adjust your frequencies after the DTV transition is complete. I’ll be honest and say that I know very little about sound equipment, so maybe some of you tech-heads can clue me in with further details about how the new DTV channels will affect wireless signals.

More at the link, including a statement from Shure.

The digital converter box may not be enough

Some TV stations to lose viewers in shift to digital

Some viewers could also lose signals because of what’s known as the digital “cliff effect.” Unlike analog signals, digital broadcasts either come in clearly or not at all, meaning that those on the fringes of analog coverage areas will lose that reception entirely after the transition. Currently, they can still get fuzzy analog signals.

Some viewers may therefore need more powerful antennas — in addition to converter boxes — to continue receiving certain channels. [Emphasis mine]

When means you should bookmark this section of Josh’s blog, Blob Waukesha, where he seems to have made one out of PVC pipe.
