Update: Well, this generated more interest than my usual posts. Unfortunately I’ve been busy since I posted it and several comments were placed in moderation. My apologies for the delay in posting your comments. And it’s been made largely irrelevant anyway by the courts refusal to hear the case. Thanks to illusory tenant and folkbum for corrections in the comments.
UPDATE 2: Here’s an article from the Honolulu Advertiser (via Ed Morrissey) that should put the issue to rest. Unfortunately like Bush stealing the 2000 election, it will never rest.
From the “Give it up already” files
The quadrennial early-winter attempt to overturn presidential results by any means necessary.
The Supreme Court is going to [Update: consider whether it will] hear the case of whether Barack Obama can be president of the US.
And you know if the court decides he can, some people still will not be convinced.
If Hawaii mailed the original to every one of the unbelievers, they wouldn’t believe it.

Most people don’t know the difference between the “Certification of Live Birth” that Obama posted on his website and the “Certificate of Live Birth” that is presumably being held under seal in Hawaii. I found this website of FAQ about Obama’s birth certificate to be helpful:

There are two ironies here. The first is that the majority (if not all) of the lawsuits have actually been filed by Democrats (mostly Hillary supporters). Secondly, of the Republicans who buy into this crap, they are usually the first ones who call Ron Paul supporters loony. Go figure.
Excellent point, Nick.
I think this is much ado about nothing.
The Supreme Court is going to hear the case of whether Barack Obama can be president of the US.
Nah. The Court held a conference yesterday, at which it considered a bunch of cases, and this one was among them.
The Court granted hearings in two cases, but that one (pun intended) wasn’t among them.
But it will appear on a much longer list of rejected cases, likely Monday.
The Supreme Court is not going to “hear” any case. The case was dismissed at two lower levels and the plaintiff asked for a review and stay at the SCOTUS level. It, like literally thousands of other such requests, will likely be ignored.
This is the most thoughtful and coherent comment I have read on this issue. I wish I had written this comment. This writer goes to he heart of the issue and does it in a very unbiased way.
The Intellectual Redneck
I confess that I only read about 2/3 of it (the guy does go on, doesn’t he!), but that comment is simply first-class wingnuttery dressed up in rational-sounding words.
And you know what I want to know? Even if Barack was born in a foreign country (which only a wingnut could believe at this point), what difference would it make?? His mother was a United States citizen. Even if he’d been born in Timbuktu or Leningrad, he’d still be a natural born US citizen with every right to occupy the office of president. It’s only if you further postulate some additional conspiracy that he becomes ineligible. But I don’t even know why I should bother making this kind of point as the whole thing is so nonsensical as to not merit any response but “get professional help.”
