Well, except… In a world where personal responsibility means more than just Sykesian lip-service isn’t it true that the deeds of Jack Ryan more than their revelation is what brought him down. The hubris to act as he did and then to attempt to tell the rest of Illinois how they should behave is one of them “tragic flaws” your Lit Prof tried to tell you about.
Jeri didn’t bring Jack’s candidacy down. Jack did that.

And, of course, you’re right about Jack Ryan bringing himself down, not that it makes it any less fun.
Perhaps I should title it “The woman whose stupid husband changed the world.”
One could also make the point that what Jack Ryan did had no effect on the ultimate outcome.
