If you are at all interested in politics and are not checking in regularly at Playground Politics, you should be. A political insider (my guess, I could be wrong; it wouldn’t be the first time), this anonymous blogger regularly exposes idiocy in our politicians, mostly Republican, but I think it’s because he is Republican, though moderate (?) and really likes the party.
He does occasionally point his pen toward the Democrats as he does here.
And I think he’s come up with a reason why evangelicals haven’t connected whole-heartedly with a GOP presidential candidate, although I don’t think he realizes his brilliance here, yet. We’re waiting for the non-pervert (is that a word?).

Aw, this might be the nicest thing anyone has ever dared to say about me in a public forum. In return, I have delved into my blogroll for the first time in months to update your link. Your old domain wants to sell me and my readers crotchless panties, earbuds, and cell phones. Or are you just trying to turn a profit with those Amazon referrals?
You are correct in your characterization. While so many insiders want to make me out to be some kind of bitter, angry traitor, everything I do on my blog is out of love. I’m just another socially moderate, fiscally responsible Republican-leaning voter (and former staffer) who’d like a little less of the guns and gays and God and a little more of the how can we make government do a great job of doing the things that it needs to do. A little less tax cuts 24/7 and a little more how are you going to pay for this.
In my heart, I think I will always be Republican, or lean in that direction. But I’m also not afraid to spank the Republicans by voting for Democrats. Sometimes it’s the only way they’ll learn. And sadly these days, sometimes the Democrats are actually better on issues of fiscal responsibility, because at least they’re willing to pay for what they buy.
But enough about me. What’s your take on the ‘08 mess, since you referenced it? Where do you think socially conservative voters will turn to? Certainly, religiously-oriented voters have always placed a higher premium on a candidate’s own personal background – and in this race, there’s no white knight among the A-listers in that regard. Heck, Clinton and Obama have cleaner slates than any of the top GOP nominees.
I have a hard time imagining all these newly-empowered evangelical voters sitting home on their hands, but where you think they’ll go if they have to hold their nose and vote for someone?

Sadly (?
) I will make no money from my old site. I’m afraid somebody hacked something and it’s lost forever (as are most of the posts and comments)
“Clinton and Obama have cleaner slates than any of the top GOP nominees.”
And that to me is very sad. Why would a party that supposedly extols family values have such a slate of candidates, and be so weak in the temptations of the same? I’m befuddled by it.
Who will the religious voters go for? I’ve wracked my brain trying to remember some comment by my friends and family (most of whom are evangelical) and can’t remember anyone running who has been mentioned. I think for many of them, it’s just too early.
Many will vote, most probably for the Republican candidate. If they don’t like him, they might go third party (Constitution?) or just not vote. But I think they would vote Republican based on the Democratic nominee whether Hillary, Obama or Edwards (”We’ll be doomed if they’re elected. We have to stop them.”).
