Vicki McKenna’s Milwaukee radio show
July 31, 2007 — thoughtfulconservativePatrick has not been too impressed with Vicki McKenna’s Milwaukee radio show.
If they insist on piping in a radio show from Madison, at least they could make it sound decent, it sounds like she is doing the radio show from a cell phone. The audio quality stinks, it is like listening to an old time AM radio station that is almost out of range or not tuned in right… This is not the quality you expect from a 50,000 watt radio station.
And then Bruce in the comments perhaps reveals the reason,
Welcome to Madison, folks. I am guessing she’s doing her show from the WIBA studios. That’s how their station always sounds. This is why I listen to Milwaukee radio.
I haven’t had a chance to listen yet. More perhaps, when I get the opportunity to listen.

Just remember her beau is the right’s darling Austin King, past Madison city council member.

I refuse to listen to that radio program until she takes down that disrespectful picture on her website of her draping herself in the American Flag. That’s not how you show proper respect to Old Glory….

You know what they say politics make strange bedfellows. BTW, in full disclosure I tend to be very supportive of Austin’s work.

I’m sorry she’s on your radio. I’ve always envied the strong relationship your personalities have with the blogging community and community at large - Vikki is a big step down for Milwaukee radio.

Thanks for you comment, Jesse and I read your link with interest.
I’ve listened to Vicki a couple of times and was at an event where she was a panelist. She’s certainly conservative and WISN was more than likely looking at a conservative voice when they reworked their schedule. I don’t know what other options they had, but she has not “clicked” with me. And I’m not sure how many call-ins she’s getting but both times I didn’t hear to many call in, so it became monologues with commercial breaks.
In her defense, it would have to be difficult to do a “local” show in a market you’re not local to. I’m sure she reads the papers, but I don’t know if it would be the same. On state issues she might connect better.

Talk radio is not a major player in radio.
Arbitron, the radio ratings system proves this.
The Green Bay market has almost a 90 share for music.
About 550 people listen to talk radio…out of a half million covered.
In Madison, the same average share.
Very few people listen to talk radio….just the ones who are really loud in public, and scream to the news- the nusiance callers.
The public perception of talk radio is seen as rude, insulting partisan conservative-biased opinions. Most people view it as a an audio version of a gossip tabloid.
Arbitron also shows that talk radio appeals to white men, over the age of 57. Not a big market.
Go check your own market shares:

Hmm. So I wonder why there is at least one in almost every market. Oh, yeah, that’s right, it’s those conservative corporations that rule the radio waves.
